They know that the obstacles are what’s going to make them successful. Anyone can drive the ship when the seas are calm and if you’ve never weathered any storms, those first storms can be quite daunting. However, from weathering each new storm, perseverance and resiliency are built. It’s this perseverance and resiliency that breeds a rising confidence. A confidence where one knows there is always a way. Creativity and flexibility. Creativity is knowing there is always an answer and flexibility is knowing there is always more than one answer. Imagine the power of having the confidence and belief that there is always a way? That there is never any obstacle that cannot be overcome? You’d be unstoppable if you had this unwavering faith! What trips many of us up is that we come up with “the way” to overcome an obstacle or that it has to be resolved in a certain way, then when things don’t happen the way we want, we feel like we are not solving the problem. We focus more on making sure our method works rather than focusing on the outcome we want. Successful people don’t care how (as long as it’s legal, ethical and moral) something is accomplished, as long as it’s accomplished. They are open to possibilities. For instance, because of my lack of knowledge as a Young Man I found myself in too much debt to sustain my own peace of mind. I needed to eliminate debt. At first my mind was entrenched with needing to make enough in profit to payoff that debt. When that proved not be a fast enough solution, I needed to open ourselves to other possibilities. I actually asked one of my loan providers, who I have been indebted for a long period of time and spent a significant portion of my annual expenditures with, to consolidate my loans and lower the interest rates. I had a series of talks and they actually ended up doing just that which helped me out a lot with this entire debt, plus putting me on a quarterly rebate program that added back to my bottom line each year. If I hadn’t asked and been open to a different way than I imagined, I would not have asked the question. If I hadn’t asked the question, the debt wouldn’t have been lowered and I probably would have been fighting uphill battle against the principal balance and the capital balance as well as the interest rate affecting my debt. The one thing I knew when I faced this obstacle was that there was a way to overcome it. I knew there were many different answers available to solving the problem. I didn’t know the answer, but as I opened up to the possibilities they just seemed to pop up. I could fill an entire book talking about the problems I've overcome with this mindset. The true gift in all of this is that I have realized that problems are the way to growth. It’s the problems that give us the opportunity to build value. Now, I don’t go out seeking problems constantly, but I sure know to look for the opportunities hidden in them.
